Welcome to Ms. Lane's 3rd grade class. Third grade is a year full of learning and fun. I look forward to working with all of you!!
Communication is so very important for us to be successful this year. I will do my best to always be available to you for any questions or concerns that may arise throughout the year. I will update this website frequently to keep you informed of upcoming events and projects we are working on. I am also available by email at [email protected]. When you email me with a question, I will get back with you within 24 hours. Parent/teacher conferences are scheduled through our guidance department. Please feel free to scheduled a conference at any time.
Below is some information to help you prepare for this school year. Again, WELCOME to 3rd grade.
Grading Information
Student grades will be updated on Skyward for you to view. Student's work will be sent home in a folder the same day as progress reports are available in Skyward. You may keep all student work, but please sign and return the take home folder.
On this site you can find your students spelling words for the week, the story they are reading in class, along with the chapter in math that we are working on. You can also find the reading and math series on www.thinkcentral.com. Your student will have their actual reading book and math book on that website to view from home, so there is no need for them to bring these books home. Also if your student forgets their math homework, that book is also available on the website for you to either print and complete, or complete on notebook paper and bring to class. Just make sure you have the lesson number on the top of the page so I know what lesson they are completing.
Homework
Every night you should expect your student to have a spelling assignment, and to be reading 30 minutes a night with a written assignment, along with a math assignment. Also every Tuesday and Thursday I will be sending home an additional reading assignment for your student to complete, focusing on skills that we are learning in class and will align with the state test given in third grade. When this page is sent home it is in lieu of the 30 minutes a night assignment.
Projects
Throughout the year students will be assigned projects as an extension of their learning to be completed at home. All projects will be assigned with a rubric for grading. For example: 1) Every two weeks a current event will be due. The rubric is located in their homework folder in the page protector. 2) Once a month a book report will be due by the last day of the month. The rubric will be given out monthly during the first week of the month explaining the book report of the month. These are just two example of projects that will be reoccurring as well as other single projects throughout the year. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask.
Testing
Easy CBM:
Students will take the Easy CBM three times this year. This is a computer based reading assessment. The test assesses students in reading comprehension, word analysis and spelling. This is one of many ways us to track student growth throughout the year.
**Keep looking for further information about new testing that will be taking place this year.
